Local Cancer Research Charity group raise over £120,000
A small group of local volunteers calling themselves CRUW (Cancer Research UK Hertford and Ware) have been shaking buckets, running marathons, cycling up mountains and zumba’ing in sports halls to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
CRUW set themselves a challenging fundraising target of £100,000 when they originated in 2010. With help from organisations like Volac, Hertford Regional College, The Golden Griffin pub in Hertford and The Axe and Compasses pub in Braughing, they reached that target earlier this year, raising a whopping £122,500 for Cancer Research UK.
Alison Groves, chair of CRUW said: ‘All of our volunteers and supporters have worked incredibly hard to help us raise this enormous sum of money for Cancer Research UK. We have been humbled by the support shown from people affected by cancer and just how much can be achieved when people give a little of their time and money’
Gemma Kitching, Cancer Research UK’s Local Fundraising manager for North Hertfordshire, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the fundraising the group have achieved in a short space of time. Their support is amazing and it’s great to see the support they get from local people and businesses”.
All proceeds raised by the team go directly to Cancer Research UK to help fund pioneering research into cancer treatment and prevention. Some of the funds will be allocated to new research centres like the Francis Crick Institute in London, due to open this year.
CRUW are continuing their mission and on 6th February they hosted a quiz night at Wodson Park in Ware which raised over £700.
The team is always looking for local volunteers to help out at events or give a few hours of their time to help with street collections. To get involved or find more information about CRUW you can contact the team via www.cruw.org or follow us on Twitter @CRUKWARE and on Facebook.
